Asheville has become one of the most sought after wedding destinations in the South, and for good reason. Mountain views, historic estates, working farms, and a downtown full of character give couples a backdrop that is hard to match anywhere else.

What catches a lot of couples out is the logistics. Many of the most beautiful venues in Western North Carolina sit at the end of long, winding mountain roads. Parking is often limited. Guests are frequently staying twenty or thirty minutes away in downtown Asheville. And on the day itself, nobody wants to be checking a phone to find out where the groomsmen have got to.

Start with the guest list, not the car

Most couples begin by picturing the car they will arrive in. That is the fun part, and we will come to it. But the bigger logistical question is usually your guests.

Work out how many people need moving, where they are staying, and how many separate journeys are involved. A typical Asheville wedding involves at least three: guests from their hotels to the ceremony, guests from the ceremony to the reception if those are in different places, and everyone back to their accommodation at the end of the night.

Once you know those numbers, the vehicle question answers itself.

Why shuttles matter more here than in most places

Guest shuttles are worth serious consideration in Western North Carolina specifically, for a few practical reasons.

• Many venues have genuinely limited parking, and some ask couples to arrange group transport for exactly that reason.
• Mountain roads in the dark are not something out of town guests will enjoy driving, particularly after a celebration.
• A shuttle sets the end time of the evening, which is often useful.
• Nobody has to nominate a designated driver, which means everyone can actually enjoy the day.

A shuttle also solves a problem couples rarely anticipate, which is the staggered arrival. When guests drive themselves, they turn up across a forty minute window. When they travel together, everyone arrives at once and the day stays on schedule.

Choosing the right vehicle for your group

Group size is the main factor, but so is the journey. A twenty minute transfer and a ninety minute one call for different things.

• Smaller wedding parties and bridal party transfers usually suit an executive vehicle or a Sprinter.
• Mid sized guest groups fit comfortably on a mini bus, which is easy to manoeuvre on narrower mountain approaches.

The arrival, and the exit

This is the part everyone remembers, and it is worth getting right.
